Bhai Mati Das

Bhai Mati Das was a prominent Sikh martyr who gave his life to u phold justice and religious freedom. He was among the five Sikhs who were put to death in 1675 by the emperor of the Mughal Empire, Aurangzeb. Bhai Mati Das was a man of unwavering Sikhism who refused to submit to the tyranny of the Mughal Empire and was a man of great courage and integrity.

In the current Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, a village by the name of Kariala was the place where Bhai Mati Das was born in 1619. He came from a Brahmin family that was persuaded to become Sikhs by Guru Hargobind, the sixth Guru of the Sikhs.
