Chote Sahibzade Shaheedi Diwas is a sad festival celebrated by Sikhs worldwide to remember the martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the two younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh. Every year on December 27, this day is observed to honour the Chote Sahibzade for his bravery, selflessness, and dedication to Sikhism in the face of hardship. The Chote Sahibzade's narrative is sorrowful but also motivational. The two young boys of Guru Gobind Singh were captured by the Mughal ruler of Sirhind in 1704, during the turbulent reign of the Mughal Empire. Sahibzada Zorawar Singh, who was nine years old, and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, who was seven years old, declined to give up their beliefs and become Muslims despite their youth. They endured torture before being crucified, but not before holding fast to their faith all the way to the end.
The martyrdom of Chote Sahibzade is evidence of the Sikh community's fortitude and bravery in trying circumstances. Generations of Sikhs worldwide are still motivated by their unyielding faith and selflessness today. Chote Sahibzade Shaheedi Diwas is observed globally at gurdwaras with special prayers, kirtans, and katha sessions. In addition, religious processions known as nagar kirtans and the commencement of the Guru Granth Sahib recitation known as aarambh path are held to mark the day. Sikhs demonstrate their solidarity with the Sikh community by participating in langar (community kitchens), offering prayers, and considering the martyrdom of the Chote Sahibzade.
